We had a number of questions about the Confirmation requirement information. I thought this would be best to address some of the general questions asked with you all as these might pop up as you work through the packet.
Confirmation name / Saint report
* Students can choose any saint that inspires them, no matter the gender. For example, if your daughter adores animals and wants to choose St. Francis, that is perfectly fine.
Confirmation sponsor
* The chosen sponsor must be a practicing Catholic and be at least 16 years old by April 1.
* If the chosen sponsor is from Corpus Christi (St. Mary, Holy child or St. Barbara Church) you must contact the rectory office at 412-221-5213 ext. 4160 for Dianne or ext 4240 for Mariangela to obtain the sponsor verification certificate. Our parish secretaries will happily obtain the paperwork for you and put it in my mailbox.
Service project (8 hours needed by Jan 31, 2021)
Think outside the box and use the season to help. Here are a few ideas that might help in obtaining the required service hours.
* With Fall upon us, many of your neighbors might need help with lawn work (clearing leaves and debris and readying the lawns for winter.) Your student could assist their neighbors and rake their lawns, clean out flower beds, any last minute Fall or winter prep. Mom or Dad can sign off on it, just let me know what you are doing.
* Service hours DO NOT need to be completed all at one place. Students can do a variety of service. For example, Jonny might do two hours at the Bridgeville Food bank, four hours Altar serving Masses, and two hours helping his grandparents rake leaves. Multiple places is fine. Just use the service hour credit form (attached) to keep track. For the questionnaire, they will only have to complete it for one of their projects.
* We will be having two Advent events in December that will be the perfect opportunity for your student to gain a number of service hours. As we get closer, I will send out a request for help and a link to the sign up page.
* Keep an eye out on what's happening in your school or community. There might be an organization that could use some help. Non paying assisting in skills training at a youth league or team, counts as volunteering
If there are any organizations or parish ministries that could use some help, I will forward the information along.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
