Our Family Catechesis Sessions take place at the Holy Child Site, 220 Station St. Bridgeville Pa, 15017.

Our Catechesis of the good Shepherd Atrium is on the cafeteria level of the Religious Ed Center at Holy Child.

Beginning in the 2023 – 2024 school year, Corpus Christi Parish transitioned to Whole Family Catechesis for grades K through 8 as its only Faith Formation curriculum. Continuing for the 2024 – 2025 school year and with embracing this new style of Faith formation, we no longer offer traditional weekly sessions or a homeschool option.

Family Catechesis for Kindergarten through 8th Grade

Corpus Christi Whole Family Catechesis brings a shared experience for the entire family. Gathering ONCE a month, this combination of prayer, education, and community empowers the family to not only learn more about our faith but how to model our faith within our families. The 8 required monthly sessions will equip families to complete the at home assignments as a family unit and take roughly 30 minutes for each week.

As we attend Family Catechesis sessions together, we have the opportunity to grow as a community. We form relationships with the parents we meet at sporting events, PTA, scouting, etc, and this method provides our parish the ability to create a community in the place where you and your family need it most- among people who share your struggles and joys as you walk a life of faith.

Family Catechesis is a bridge between the formation methods we are familiar with and one that empowers, equips, excites and embraces what we don’t know. By inviting our priests, parish staff, and knowledgeable parishioners to speak to the parents builds a strong sense of Catholic identity. We are on this faith journey together as we build up the “Body of Christ”.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level 1 (ages 3 – 5)

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children, beginning at the age of three. The focus of the program is to deepen the child’s existing relationship with God; to encourage the formation of a personal prayer life; to participate fully in the liturgical and sacramental life of the
Church; and to develop a deeper understanding of Catholic identity and tradition. This is accomplished through the use of materials, prayer, song, listening to the Word of God, and giving the child time to work with the materials provided.

All lessons are presented using Montessori methods that encourage the child to work with a variety of easily accessible materials.

Sacrament Preparation at Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi Faith Formation follows the Diocesan guidelines for sacrament preparation. Students entering second grade will be receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for the first time while students entering 8 th  grade will be receiving Confirmation.  These sacraments will be received in the Spring of the year at dates that will be determined.

All Sacramental preparation will be done outside of Family Catechesis on scheduled days.

Diocesan Safety Curriculum

While adults are the chief protectors of children, there are still items that we can teach children to be able to protect themselves when faced with tough situations. To help you keep your child protected we are providing parents and guardians with this very important and necessary lesson guide and instruction. Each year, parents are asked to complete one of the at-home lessons provided by Virtus (which are a diocesan mandate to our curriculum.) These lessons will give children the tools they need to help us keep them safe by educating them regarding boundaries, safe and unsafe behaviors, and healthy relationships.

Middle School Youth Group

Corpus Christi Middle School Youth Group (MSYG) is an additional opportunity for Middle School children to learn more about their faith and is open to any student entering grades 5 through 8. Led by our Family Minister, Mrs. Katie Grella, MSYG explores relevant topics of today’s Catholic Youth through the eyes of Theology of Body. Our expanding Youth Group meets once a month for focused discussion through games, service and community with optional additional evenings of prayer and Bible study.
