As Catholics, we know that parents are the first teachers of our Faith. It is through the family, the domestic church, that we first learn who God is and prayerfully seek His Will for us. Our Faith Formation program is designed to support the domestic church and enhance these teachings with further instruction and experiences geared to make well rounded Catholics.
Corpus Christi Parish offers families options for Faith Formation for preschool students, students in kindergarten through 8th grade and in high school. For children in Kindergarten through Grade 8, we use the Faith and Life series from Ignatius Press for both our tradition on site classes and our homeschool program. This series provides solid content and a foundation of faith and love of Jesus Christ, through which students respond to God’s call in prayer, mercy and justice. With this series, we aim to provide:
Faith Formation for Kindergarten through Grade 8
Corpus Christi Parish offers both traditional onsite classes and a homeschool option for families. Students in both traditional setting and in homeschool have the opportunity to participate in program wide sacraments, service projects and events.
Though we welcome kindergarten students to both our traditional onsite and homeschool programs, it is not a required year and optional for families. Most students begin their Faith Formation journey in first grade.
Traditional classroom setting:
For children in grades Kindergarten through grade 8, we offer two sessions of traditional classroom instructions on Sundays for students: AM Session is from 9 – 10:30 am and PM Session is from 6 – 7:30 pm. Classes have between 12 – 18 students, taught by wonderful faith filled volunteer catechists. All classes are at the Holy Child site.
Faith Formation at Home: Our Homeschool option for all grades Kindergarten through 8th:
We offer a guided, online program, for grades 1-8, utilizing the “Faith and Life at Home (My Catholic Faith Delivered)” for families who choose to instruct their children at home. This completely online program (no textbooks necessary) follows scheduled classes, along with supplemental materials and Zoom meetings.
Kindergarten classes are also offered in homeschool; however, they will use textbooks. Their assignments will be submitted monthly, via email. Please see the Homeschool tab for further information.
Faith Formation and Preschool
Corpus Christi Parish offers Level 1 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) for ages 3 – 5. CGS is a Montessori based program designed to develop children’s innate potential for a faith -filled relationship with God. Children encounter Jesus, the Good Shepherd who love them, cares for them, and knows them by name. Catechesis includes Scripture, Mass gestures, prayers, artwork, and music.
Faith Formation and Sacrament preparation
Our sacramental prep for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation are included in the Faith Formation instruction. As required by the Diocese of Pittsburgh, to obtain these sacraments, students requesting to receive First Reconciliation, First Communion, or Confirmation need to attend an established Faith Formation program or a Catholic School for two consecutive years. (Grades 1 and 2 for First Reconciliation and First Communion and Grades 7 and 8 for Confirmation) Please see the Sacrament tab for further details.
Mrs. Hand strives to enrich our students’ lives with a greater understanding of the Faith. We are dedicated to continuing and nurturing the Kingdom of God here on earth! Our Faith Formation program works closely with both our parish Family Ministry and Youth Ministry to give additional support to our families.
