Dear Homeschool families,
Welcome to Corpus Christi Homeschool Faith Formation Program. We have developed a detailed schedule for you to follow. The success of this program depends on you, the parent/guardian. Please prayerfully reflect on each lesson, asking God to guide you on this journey of faith with your child.
For those who have completed the homeschool program last year, welcome back. We will, again, be using Our Sunday Visitor’s “Alive in Christ” program, but have made a few changes, so please read through the list below.
How to begin:
*Follow the weekly “Chapter Schedule”
*Each week, you teach your child a chapter from their textbook. If needed, there is an on-line guide to assist you. (Listed under “In the Home.”) Be sure to review the questions with your child throughout each chapter in the book.
*Once the lesson is taught:
Grades Kindergarten, 1, and 2 complete the weekly assignment. They do not have any online eAssessments to complete. Their work will either be approved by the parent or you may, occasionally, be asked to submit assignments to me. (The attached schedule will guide you.)
Grades 3-8 will usually complete an on-line eAssessment which will be submitted to me via email.
*At times, the score may be low due to spelling errors, or possibly, more than one correct answer, depending on how the question was presented. If your child’s score is low for one of these reasons, email me and I will adjust the score.
There are MANDATORY MEETINGS for parents/guardians of students in Grade 2 and 8, as these are Sacramental years. Please continue to check your email for the dates and times.
Student Homeschool Guidelines:
●All students are expected to attend weekly Mass (or watch live stream Mass) and receive the Sacraments (if of age) of Eucharist and Penance.
●All students, including homeschooled, must participate in any function that the CCD classes participate in as a group, such a church tours, special Masses, etc.
●Students are expected to learn their class prayers. (Included in their packets)
●eAssessments are to be completed by the student. Parents may sit with their child when completing the eAssessments.
●All lessons and eAssessments must be completed to advance to the next grade.
New This Year …
●Students are only to complete one lesson as week. They are not to work ahead of schedule. Any chapters that are submitted ahead of the schedule cannot be recorded.
●Any eAssessment with a 7 or below must be retaken. I will record the “new” score when received.
●If the parent/guardian is uncomfortable teaching any subject matter in a lesson, please let me know.
●All eAssessments are to be submitted to homeschool@corpuschristipgh.org (**NOTE: This is a different email from last year.) Instructions for submitting eAssessments can be found on next page.
●At times, students must complete “hand-written” (not typed) page assignments from their textbook. This will be designated on their Chapter Schedule. The assignment can be photographed/scanned, then texted or emailed to me. (Be sure to include your child’s name and grade so that I can give him/her credit.) These assignments are due within one week of date.
●All lessons and prayer(s) must be taught by Easter, April 4, 2021.
If you have any questions, please email me or call or text me (leave your name when you text so I know who is texting.)
A few reminders:
1. Any score 7 or below will not be marked as completed. Please review your child's scores and have them retake any eAssessment that they've received a 7 or below.
But remember ... if your child has a spelling error, I can adjust the score. Email me at the homeschool email.
2. It is preferred to send the handwritten assignments, that are submitted to me, to do so via email at homeschool@corpuschristipgh.org.
Be sure that when photographing the assignments, they are clear to read. Quite a few have been almost too blurry for me to see.
3. My office hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please do not send texts after hours.
4. Follow each child's schedule as each grade has a different schedule.
5. Please make the following changes to the schedules per grade:
Grade 3 -- Oct. 18 page should be page 118
Grade 5 -- Jan. 24 page should be page 221
Grade 6 -- Jan. 3 page should be page 186/187
Grade 7 -- Mar. 14 page should be page 333

How to log onto the eAssessments for Corpus Christi Homeschool CCD
Log into:
www.aliveinchrist.osv.com/family
TO BEGIN TEACHING THE LESSON:
Click on the green tab “STUDENTAND FAMILY”
Click on the “IN THE HOME” tab,
Then choose grade,
Choose, chapter,
Then choose download for the Manual (this is the teacher’s manual)
Then, begin the lesson with your child
Once your child is ready to take the eAssessment that will be submitted to me:
Click on eAssessment
Sign in – This would be the email and password that you have chosen
IMPORTANT: (If this is the first time, you must register an email and a password. You will
need to use this username and password each time you log in.)
Click on Grade, Unit, Chapter, and Recipient
Under Recipient, type: homeschool@corpuschristipgh.org
Type in the child’s name and class (which will be their grade)
Then, take the eAssessment
Once you log on the first time, the following chapters are much easier to log into.

The Sign of the Cross (Kindergarten/Grade 1)
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our Father (Kindergarten/Grade 1)
Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary (Grade 1)
Hail Mary, full of grace! the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be (Grade 1)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Prayer Before Meals (Grade 1)
Bless us, O Lord, and these Your gifts which we are about to receive from Your bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer After Meals (Grade 2)
We give You thanks, almighty God, for all Your goodness. You live and reign now and forever. Amen
Apostles Creed (Grade 3)
I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose from the dead. He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. Guardian Angel Prayer (Grade 4)
Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom His love commits me here,
Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit (Grade 5)
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. O God, Who does instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us by the same Holy Spirit, a love and relish of what is right and just, and a constant enjoyment of His comforts. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen (Grade 6)
Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy; Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in the valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us.
And after this show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

The Memorare (Grade 7)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

Nicene Creed (Grade 8)
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets. Please review both prayers below. I have added comments to assist you in teaching the prayers. Some may seem a little comical but, trust me, I've heard them all. Please note ... we should NEVER laugh or tease when the children use the wrong words ... just simply make note to them of the correct word.)
All comments are geared to little children, using the simplest of terms.

Using your RIGHT hand,
say "In the name of the Father" while touching your forehead,
say "and Of the Son" while touching your center of your chest (your heart)
say "and of the Holy" while crossing your right hand to your left shoulder
say "Spirit" while moving right hand back to right shoulder
say "Amen" while placing your hands in prayer.
(Even if you are left handed, you still use your right hand.)
The Lord's Prayer (The Our Father) -- (I will add teaching notations in blue italics)
(This prayer uses many words which the child may not be familiar. Please make sure they say them correctly. I will note them, I will list various words I've heard from children in the past, and I will explain when needed.)

Thank you for taking on the responsibility of teaching the Catholic faith to your child, especially during this 8th grade, and Confirmation, year.
I had many emails today about when Confirmation will be scheduled, where is the Confirmation class/meeting schedule, and what is the Decision Point book.
Usually, you would receive, along with the 8th grade textbook and schedule, another schedule for Confirmation. Due to COVID, we can't schedule anything at this time as we are limited to a certain number of students permitted in a classroom. Part of our Catholic faith is building community. When we prepare for Confirmation, we need this feeling of community as your child, once confirmed, should become a witness to our Catholic faith. Working together as a group encourages our youth to grow stronger in the ability to discuss and be an example of our faith by the way others see them.
Using the Decision Point book, we not only review past lessons learned, but dedicate much time to the Sacrament of Confirmation, such as the meaning of this sacrament, the gifts and fruits of Confirmation, etc. We have sent home the Decision Point books as it is a very good resource for Confirmation. Your child may look through the book, if he or she wishes.
We pray that this serious situation is over soon and that we may once again gather together as God's family. One way or another, your child will be prepared for Confirmation, which we hope will be celebrated next spring.
